English words, in general, are made up of 26 different characters or letters from A to Z, for example, the word APPLE is combining A with 2P, a L and the letter E.
When starting to learn English, we begin with learning A for apple, B for boy, C for cat, etc. in order to get to acquaint with these 26 letters. After we learnt the words, we began to memorise them through dictation. I think there is a link missing. Listening comprehension is very important because it is the basis of our language structure. It reinforces memory retention. This exercise is for kids between the age of 5 to 10. Now, I will give you a series of sounds and you are to tell me what the first letter of each of these sounds is; for example, when you hear the word “quilt”, you have to be able to say that the first character is Q.
Watch out for the subtle difference between S and Z; F and T; and C, Q and K.
